Hi! I’m Bienuel M. Esmeralda, but you can call me Ben. I’m 23 years old and recently graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics, with a minor in Statistics, from Central Mindanao University. During my time in university, I gained valuable experience in data analysis, leadership, and event management through both academic projects and active involvement in student organizations. I’m passionate about applying mathematical and statistical tools to solve real-world problems and am currently seeking opportunities where I can grow professionally, contribute meaningfully, and continue learning.

This study explores how two prey species (Zebra and Wildebeest) interact and protect each other when a predator (Lion) is present. Using mathematical modeling, I simulated how their populations change over 16 years. The red dots show real data, and the dashed lines represent my model’s predictions. The first set of graphs shows a poor fit, while the second set shows an improved fit using a technique in Python called Trust Region Optimization.
I used Python's scipy optimization- Trust Constrained Region Algorithm to fit my model in the given data.
These graphs show the forecasted population trends over 500 years when all species interact. This shows a possible long-term balance in the ecosystem.
These graphs show the forecasted population dynamics over 500 years when the first prey protects the second prey. Because of this role, the first prey becomes more exposed to the predator, leading to its extinction. Although the second prey survives, the predator also eventually dies out, showing that it relies on both prey species to persist.
